Weekend Review
March 7th - 9th

The wait is finally over for Dublin side, Killester, who were crowned Men’s Premier League Champions today after their 19 point win over Bord Gais Neptune.

Following their impressive 20 point win on Saturday night against UL Eagles 80 – 60, the men in orange and black needed to acquire just one point (losing bonus point) in Cork to take the title. However, they won it in style taking out Bord Gais Neptune 44 – 63.

This is the eighth time for Killester to claim the top prize in Irish basketball, doing so most recently in 2011.

Huskies Presented with WPL Title
UL Huskies Presented with WPL Regular Season Title

UL Huskies ended another superb regular season campaign by capturing the Women's Premier League regular season title for the fourth consecutive year. They were presented with the trophy by Basketball Ireland President Gerry Kelly last weekend before their final home game of the season v Liffey Celtics.

Huskies were made to work hard for the league title and trailed other sides in the standings for much of the season before coming strong at the finish and showing their championship pedigree. Huskies title earns them a one-seed for the playoffs and a bye to a home semi-final this month.

Congratulations to the Huskies players, coaching staff, management and all involved with the club!

The pairings for the Basketball Ireland Women’s Division One semi-finals in the playoffs have been set following a busy month of action.

Recently crowned Senior Women’s National Cup champions, Portlaoise Panthers have secured top spot and will face an Oblate Dynamos side that beat them to start the month, 61 – 53 in Dublin.

Portlaoise bounced back from that defeat to win against UL and NUIG Mystics before finishing the regular season with a convincing road win against IT Carlow, 47 – 66.

MD1 Monthly Review - Feb 2014

The Maree senior men’s team made club history during the month of February as they won the Basketball Ireland Men’s Division One title for the first time in their proud history.

The big game of the month came on the 8th when the two challengers for the title, Maree and Thunder clashed in Galway. While the winner would not have mathematically secured the title, it was being seen as a virtual decider.

After a truly entertaining tussle that saw Maree jump out early only to be caught by Thunder, finished with a flurry of baskets by the home side en route to a 80 -67 victory.
